Safrea Chronicle
Message from the Editor:

On June 4th 2020, at the height of lockdown, we launched the Safrea Chronicle as a way to raise morale for freelance professionals during lockdown, lure them away from their endless jigsaw puzzles and Netflix binge-watching, and to allow them to continue honing their skills.
Now, a year later, the Chronicle has changed its purpose, but is still as useful as ever as a vehicle for Safreans to promote themselves, their businesses, their skills and their clients.
The wide skill set in Safrea had led to some memorable contributions, and from now onwards the newsletter will look both backward and forward. But it will still be the same eclectic mix of serious and light-hearted information, news and musings. Enjoy.

By Blake Wilkins Is there anyone in South Africa who can stand up and deny without fear of contradiction that political accountability has ridden out of town on the only horse in the stable? Granted, a groundswell of prosecutions is building hope in many of us that at long-last change is on the way. Even so, the hoof-prints in the …

Manners maketh man. But who maketh manners?

Author: Tiffany Markman
Categories: Creators, Home, Opinion, Parent Rap, SAFREA, Tiffany Markman

I went to a school that was, shall we say, lenient in the comportment department. We greeted corridor-strolling teachers with a jaunty high five — or not at all. We were more rowdy than respectful. More passionate than polite.

A Poet's Appreciation for a Lyrical Masterpiece - 'Vincent' - By Don McLean.

Author: Vaughan Jones
Categories: Opinion, Vaughan Jones

In ‘Vincent’, the refrain, “Starry Starry Night”, in the first row of each verse, is catching and it sets or resets the scene for each verse. The contrasting and matching phrases used in the lyrics are remarkably effective, for example, “Portraits hung in empty halls, Frameless heads on nameless walls”.

The Yellow Plant tender

Author: Niki Moore
Categories: Corruption Watch, Niki Moore

The City of Tshwane, under mayor Randall Williams, issued a press statement this week about the R4billion worth of corruption under the previous ANC-led government that was now being uncovered by the current DA-led administration. In the statement, he made specific reference to the now-notorious Yellow Plant tender – a R100 million-a-month bonanza for corrupt officials and their relatives. But the report that revealed the tender irregularities also revealed some uncomfortable truths about the Tshwane Metro, and gave an indication how long it was going to take to get the municipality straightened out.

Killing off the Tooth Fairy

Author: Charlotte Nyatanga - Chipangura
Categories: Charlotte Nyatanga-Chipangura, Charlotte's World

At what stage do you burst your children's bubble by telling them Santa and tooth fairies don't exist? I'm tired of running around in efforts to support these little beliefs. Yesterday I was almost late for work as I had to stop by the service station to get money from an ATM, all because one of Rudairo's teeth had fallen …
