Safrea Chronicle
Message from the Editor:

Headlines in South Africa this last week were dominated by government officials who were found unfit for their positions, but are still trying to hang in there. When the obituary for South Africa is written, it will be summed up in three words: Absolutely No Consequences.

We have elections in a few weeks. If you do not vote, then you have abdicated your responsibility as a citizen and have no right whatsoever to complain about corruption or poor service delivery. Local government elections historically have a lower voter turn-out than national government elections. This is now our opportunity to change that. And - when making your choices - remember that a political party is not a soccer team. You don't support them out of loyalty: you support the party that, in your opinion, is most likely to fix roads and streetlights, keep your city clean, and enforce those trivial but crucial bylaws.

There is a voter registration weekend coming up, it seems. Our Chroniclers will most likely, apart from working on their next episode for your entertainment, make sure that they are on the correct voters' roll for their suburb. After all, you get the government you deserve. And you get the Chronicle you deserve. Enjoy.
