Safrea Chronicle
Message from the editor:

What's on your Christmas list this year? A book maybe? Like Safrean, Blake Wilkin's just-launched Looted Gold? Or one of the titles Helene vd Westhuizen recommends in her feature this week? Perhaps, though, you're dead set on the just-published, supposed autobiography, Jacob Zuma Speaks? If that's your wish, you'd better hope that Father Christmas joined the queue at the car boot sale in a McDonald's car park in Johannesburg, where the book was being sold. It promises to be an interesting read, especially as the publisher, Xarra Books, indicates on its website that the ex-president himself has endorsed the book, and that it contains testimonies by various noteworthy people, including Dudu Myeni.

My own wish for Christmas is that Covid19 will leave the building. Who'd have thought, a year ago, we'd still be in the grip of the pandemic? That just when it looked as if the virus was petering out, it would storm back under a different and rudely in-your-face guise? May this be its final fling.

Talking about final, this is our last newsletter of 2021. It's a trimmed down edition because most of our contributors have downed tools and are taking a much-needed break. Nevertheless, the content is as varied as it always is, and, we hope, thought-provoking.

So, ciao for now. Happy Christmas. Stay safe. See you next year.
