With the Third Wave of COVID-19 firmly upon us, a certain fatalism has crept into our daily lives. We have realised that our only hope now is vaccination... a topic that is as ringed around with conspiracy theories as the initial virus.
|
|
Conspiracy theories are strange beasts. Sometimes one of them turns out to be true. There was the rumour - widely dismissed at the time - that the virus escaped from a lab. This is getting a second airing and gaining traction.
|
|
While some theories can stand up to examination, sometimes they are too outrageous to be taken seriously. But invariably one discovers that they contain a grain of truth, and that is what makes them so tenacious.

Like the theory that Bill Gates is heading up a global strategy to control us all through soluble nano-particle microchips implanted in vaccines. In order for this to be true, it would require the willing co-operation and collective silence of hundreds of irascible scientists from every country on earth, who were somehow brought together to a secret meeting (online, of course) and asked firstly to work on the project and secondly to keep it secret. If one thinks how difficult it is to align the diaries of the local flower-arranging club, then the true scale of this achievement becomes apparent.

It took an award-winning investigative journalist to get to the bottom of this curiously-durable myth. Read the fascinating story here

Whenever I hear about grand plans of famous individuals to control the minds of mankind, I always ask myself: why on earth would they want to? If Bill Gates' evil scheme was intended to get us all mindlessly to buy Microsoft products.. well, we are doing that already. If the idea is to dumb us down to become helpless slaves to trivial factoids.... well, Facebook, Youtube, Amazon, Netflix, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit et al have already cornered that market. Mankind has become so adept at self-destructive behaviour that it seems superfluous to find an external way to get us to do it.

Poetic Lyrics Appreciation - 'On the Turning Away' By Pink Floyd

One example of this is the piece, “Light is changing to shadow, And casting it's shroud, Over all we have known”. This piece, among many other, certainly churns up an emotion and further expectations in my mind.

Half a lifetime ago, my steps echoed on the cobblestones of Buenos Aires. They were a lasting, solid characteristic of this beautiful city's old quarters. Two eminent Argentine artists, a photographer and a writer, used word and image in homage to the legacies of their birthplace.

As we spread honey on our morning toast, are we aware of the hidden power lurking in the sweetness brought to us courtesy of the bee? Ancient lore dating back to the fifth century places significant weight on the romantic imagery of honey and the more sanguine impacts of mead, recognised as the first alcoholic beverage known …
