Message from the Editor:
There is nothing like shared discomfort to bring people together. The kicks of a dying winter can still deliver quite a punch, and the last few weeks of sub-zero temperatures around the country have created a 'conspiracy of cold': we're all in this together and our conversation is about staying warm. It never ceases to amaze me how the population of this country is always caught by surprise when winter arrives. "It's cold, hey?" is the invariable opening remark (with a slight air of grievance), as if winter has somehow crept up on us unawares and is not playing fair.
As a side-comment, in some parts of our country people are staying warm by burning tyres on roads. We can only hope the bonfires are isolated, that the protestors stick to tyres, and that the absurd #FreeZuma offensive (and I use that word advisedly) fizzles out. After all, when the notoriously lawless taxi industry repudiates you, you might have to rethink your objectives.
In that vein, we have a wide variety of articles to keep your thoughts warm. Enjoy.

Back to the Future - ‘Mrs H S Ball’s Chutney’

Author: Claudia Folgore-McLellan

This is one of those stories that’s worth sharing for the sheer delight of the embellished rumour that the recipe survived the SS Quanza shipwreck, off the coast of East London, but this isn’t true an most likely crept in as some sort of marketing spin, somewhere along the way.
