Lectures, punishment, fetching leaves, pushups, Bisley marksmanship, arseholes, and insanity. It was all there.
There were options in the apartheid army. One could become a paratrooper, a pilot or remain in the infantry as cannon-fodder and die.

Balloted into the army could be fun. Religion. politics and soccer were banned. But …

Hindsight is 20/20. Perfect vision. In future “It was 2020” will be used for all things bad. “How was your day?” won’t be ‘crappy’ but “It was 2020” or “It was BLOODY 2020!”
